Mental Health Practitioner

Mental health professionals in general practice use different ways to help people with mental health conditions. These can be talking therapies for conditions like stress, anxiety and depression and other support for people with more complex needs such as bipolar, psychosis and eating disorders.

Paramedic Practitioner

    Paramedics can access and treat certain health conditions and attend home visits. They can also order tests and check results.

Physiotherapy

    First Contact Physiotherapist

    Beth can diagnose and treat muscle and joint conditions. Advise how to manage your condition. Refer you to specialist services.

Nurses

Practice nurses are available for vaccinations, wound care, blood pressure monitoring, chronic disease clinics, flu clinics, some contraceptive services, healthy lifestyle advice, cervical smears, dopplers and measure for hosiery. They also can assist with patient education and advise on lower limb problems. Please book your appointment with reception who will ask you the reason for your visit to ascertain the length of appointment required with the nurse. Due to the varying times needed for their consultations, appointments with our nurses can only be booked via reception.

    BSc, RGN

    Cate works 2 days a week. In addition to general practice nursing, she is a diabetes, specialist nurse and will be looking after our diabetic patients. She is also a minor illness trained nurse.

    Becky works 3 days per week. In addition to her general practice nursing skills, Becky is our lead nurse for Respiratory conditions e.g. Asthma and COPD.

    Alison works 4 days per week. In addition to general practice nursing, she has interest in continence and able to provide bladder and bowel advice and assessments for our adult patients.

    Nicola works 1 day a week. In addition to her general practice nursing, she is a diabetes and respiratory specialist nurse. She is also a minor illness trained nurse.

Clinical Pharmacist

  • JOANNE HALES-OWEN

    Clinical pharmacists are experts in medicines and can help people stay as well as possible. They support people with long-term conditions like asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure, or anyone taking lots of different medicines, to make sure they are working. They can review your medicines. Agree and makes changes to your prescriptions. Advise about medicines and potential side effects.

    Pharmacy Technician

    What a Pharmacy Technician can do; Show you how to use your medicines. Support clinical pharmacists to review your existing medicines. Advise you on your lifestyle choices

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants work with a nurse or another healthcare professional. They help with routine health checks including blood pressure monitoring or taking blood samples and can give certain vaccinations. They also provide patients with general health and wellbeing advice.

Patient Services Team

All our staff in the Patient Services team are involved in managing appointments and resolving queries for our patients and members of the clinical team but they also have responsibilities for particular administrative areas. Sallie is our Patient Services Team Leader & Care Co-ordinator for our patients who are most in need of additional support to help organise their appointments or order their medication.

Community Midwives

Midwife: Our community midwife, Carol Starbuck holds ante-natal clinics at the surgery on Wednesday. Carol can be contacted at other times on 01865 222777.

Social Prescribers

Social prescribing link workers help people to focus on their social, emotional and physical wellbeing, working alongside their medical team. They help people connect with local groups and services for a range of practical and emotional support. This could include physical activities and social groups, volunteering and gardening, or even debt and housing advice. What they can do: Support you to manage your health and wellbeing Give you time to focus on what matters most to you Help you to access support services and activities. Did you know that you can improve your health through social prescription? Social prescription will link you to non-medical support and there is good evidence that this can lead to positive health and wellbeing outcomes. You can be referred to a social prescriber by any of the health care staff at Long Furlong Medical Centre. The social prescribers will be able to give you more time to focus on what matters to you. They can connect you to community groups and agencies for practical and emotional support; helping you to access local clubs, activities, education, leisure facilities, recovery projects, voluntary organisations and more. Becoming connected and engaged in your local community can help you feel supported and can help you feel better. If you feel that this service would be of benefit to you, please mention this at your next appointment. Your local social prescriber is Ann Mitchell.

Community Nurses

District Nurses are available to care for those patients who are confined to their homes. This includes provision of post-operative or terminal care along with various other duties. – Telephone 01865 903750.
